Photo of Stan Lippmann – Nonpartisan Since my 1997 Mayoral campaign, and every year through last year's Congressional campaign, I have been an outspoken advocate for the monorail, making my contribution to its becoming a reality today. As a Board Member with a strong technological background and as one who envisions a county-wide system, I will be an advocate for the right choices to ensure that the monorail succeeds, not as a pet project for appointed political insiders, but as a better and faster way to move around the region than the automobile. I will ask the project bidders: how will you design the system to allow for a future upgrade to magnetic levitation, which will make the system faster, quieter, easier to maintain, and profitable? How will you design cable-stayed suspension downtown to reduce the pillar count? Also, we should save the bus tunnel, and make the Sound Transit light rail line a monorail line instead, which will join the Green line at King Street Station. I will also advocate for a political restructuring that results in a unified tri-County system, consisting of local buses and monorails, and a high-speed intercity maglev system along the freeway medians. By building a system that is better than driving for most people, those who still need to drive will enjoy less congested roads, and we as taxpayers will save billions on planned road and bridge projects, which won't be needed. Nor will we need a third runway at Seatac, if we advocate in Olympia for a maglev line to Portland and Vancouver, B.C. About me: As a Ph.D. physicist, I worked developing alternative energy in the U.S. magnetic fusion energy program. Presently, I am an attorney in private practice, and have two small businesses: the Executive Business Center, and Silq Networks, an ISP, providing broadband Internet to apartments.
